Science Fiction…or Postponed Reality?
The other day I stumbled on an article about “Caprica”, the new spin-off of Battlestar Galactica TV series, is bringing to live the concept of artificial intelligence to real world. It amazes me many of the technologies depicted in sci-fi movies have been finding their ways to become reality lately. Take cellphone as an example. These devices used to exist in Star Trek movies. Don’t think it’s a coincidence – nobody in the right mind would want to carry a bulky rotary telephone on the road.
Jim Cameron thought about robots turning rouge against their creator in Terminator. In 1976, George Lucas was already toying with the idea of floating vehicles and holographic projection. Today, scientists are working on perfecting artificial hearts, inventing ways of growing artificial organs, translating brain waves into visible images for the blinds, and the list goes on. I won’t be surprised if someday I’ll get to see floating cars parked in my grand son’s driveway. Cars will be flying sooner than you think !
